Bianca Sierra has been named the new director of the East Moline Public Library

The board of trustees of the East Moline Public Library approved the hiring of Ms. Sierra during a special session Monday, Jan. 22. She begins her new job effective Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Her appointment comes after a nationwide search to fill the vacant position following the departure of former Director Laura Long, who accepted a position with the Fremont Public Library District in Mundelein, Illinois. Ms. Long started her new job on Nov. 1.

The board highlighted the confidence and strength that Ms. Sierra presented during the interviews and cited her leadership qualities and vision for the library and community as key to the continued growth and success of the library.

“East Moline has changed over the years and continues to change,” East Moline Library Board Trustee Sheryl Hanson said in a news release. “I was impressed with Bianca’s ideas on how we can best identify and meet the changing needs and grow our services.”

Ms. Sierra, a Quad Cities native, most recently served the Davenport Public Library managing two branch locations.

A graduate of United Township High School, East Moline, she has a B.A. in elementary education and an M.A. in English from Western Illinois University, and earned her M.A. in library science from Clarion University.
