Select Specialty Hospital – a 35-bed, critical illness recovery hospital in Davenport – is moving to a new home.The hospital, currently located at 111 W. Kimberly Road, is in the process of moving to the third floor of Genesis Medical Center, East Campus at 1227 E. Rusholme St., Davenport. Select Specialty plans to be open for business at its new site on Tuesday, Jan. 31.Codie Dillie, CEO of Select Specialty Hospital, said Select is leasing the third floor from Genesis and will become a “hospital within a hospital.” She added that this is a good move because it will give patients access to a new facility, more medical staff and equipment. Currently, there are some instances when patients have to leave the Select Specialty Hospital building by ambulance to receive additional medical care and treatment at Genesis East. When Select moves into its new home, that additional treatment will be available in the same building and “just an elevator ride away,” Ms. Dillie added.“I really feel our patients deserve this. … They will have new equipment, a new place to get care. They deserve the highest level of care we can give them,” she said.Select’s move has been in the works for about two years. This is going to help patients access a new level of benefits,” Mr. Voigt said while giving a brief tour Thursday morning, Jan. 26, of Genesis East’s third floor.Medical equipment and other items from Select Specialty were being moved in on Thursday in anticipation of the “hospital within a hospital” being open next week.On Thursday, that third floor featured numerous clean and tidy rooms with photos and art decorating the rooms and hallways. The artwork depicts many scenes from Iowa, including photos of downtown Davenport and Des Moines, farm scenes and images of nature.Select is a critical illness recovery hospital that cares for patients with specialized needs, including those recovering from traumatic injuries or illness such as post-ICU patients recovering from infectious diseases, surgical complications and in need of orthopedic, wound or post-trauma care. These patients may also require ongoing treatment for pulmonary conditions, neurological disorders, cardiac conditions or renal disorders.Select Specialty Hospital - Quad Cities is moving into the third floor of Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. CREDIT DAVE THOMPSONSelect, which has been in the Quad Cities for 17 years, currently has about 22 patients. The average length of stay for Select’s patients is about 25 days. The hospital employ about 115 staff members, Ms. Dillie said.Select Specialty Hospital’s current building on Kimberly Road is now for sale, she added.The hospital is owned by Select Medical, based in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
