GALESBURG, Illinois — Carl Sandburg College’s TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program is marking a quarter-century of helping students succeed with an anniversary celebration on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

The event will be held on the Carl Sandbirge campus in the Graham Health System Science & Technology Center Atrium. It begins with a social hour and check-in at 5 p.m. The program and dinner will follow at 6 p.m.

The TRIO SSS program, which first launched at Sandburg in 1997, is federally funded to assist students who are first-generation college students (neither parent has a bachelor’s degree), income-eligible, or have disabilities. Its goal is to help these students graduate from Sandburg and transition to a four-year institution for a bachelor’s degree.

Last year, the program secured a new five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education. It is valued at more than $1.3 million. The grant will serve 140 students annually on the Galesburg Carl Sandburg campus through the 2029-30 academic year.

The anniversary celebration is timed to coincide with National TRIO Day. It will feature a buffet dinner by Innkeeper’s Coffee, a keynote speaker, and presentations from current students and alumni of the Sandburg TRIO SSS program.

Tickets for the event are $20 per person. To register or for more information, visit https://www.sandburg.edu/sandburg-experience/student-development/TRIO-programs/TRIO-25.html.
