The Safer Foundation now is accepting pre-orders for its Safer Sacks fundraiser in April. The foundation, with Quad Cities offices in Davenport, will hold its Safer Sacks fundraiser on Thursday, April 18, in honor of Second Chance Month.

Local businesses and organizations can support Safer QC’s work with those impacted by the judicial system by purchasing Safer Sacks lunches for their workplaces.

According to Safer Foundation, 100% of the money raised goes toward benefiting individuals it serves through local programs. They include Employment Services Program, Pathway Home, Youth Empower Program and I-MATTER

Safer is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit providers of services designed exclusively for people with criminal records. It works to improve the socioeconomic well-being of the individual, their family, and community. Each Safer Sack sold helps Safer participants get one step further on their road to a better future.

Each lunch consists of a ham, turkey, and cheese croissant-wich, a bag of chips, cookie, and fruit. The cost is $8 per lunch if picked up at Safer’s Davenport location. Or $9 per lunch if delivered. Earlier deliveries can be arranged.

Order deadline April 12

The deadline for ordering Safer Sacks lunches is Friday, April 12, or whenever Safer reaches 2,100 orders locally. To order lunches, contact Safer at (563) 296-5542 or email SaferSacks@saferfoundation.org. A pre-order form can be found here

Early bird orders received by Friday, April 5, will be eligible to have their names entered into a drawing for a $25 Hy-Vee gift card. Ten lucky lunch recipients who find a ping pong ball in their lunch bag will be able to redeem it for a $20 Hy-Vee gift card.

New this year, Safer also is recruiting volunteers to assist in the preparation and delivery of Safer Sacks. If you or someone you know would be interested in volunteering, sign up here

Lunches will be delivered or available for pick up between 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., April 18. A minimum purchase of six lunches is required for delivery. Payment is due upon receipt and cash and checks will be accepted.

For those picking up their Safer Sacks, the organization is located in the JB Young Opportunity Center, 1702 N. Main St., Davenport.

The fundraiser comes amid National Second Chance Month, held in April, which recognizes the importance of helping individuals, communities and agencies across the country appreciate their role in supporting the safe and successful reentry of millions of people returning from incarceration each year.

In conjunction with St. Ambrose University’s School of Social Work’s Social Justice Conference, Safer QC will be hosting a Reentry Simulation on Wednesday, April 3, to increase the awareness of the barriers those returning to our community face. For event details and to register, visit here
