Rudy’s Tacos to host Cinco de Mayo fiesta

Rudy's Tacos

Rudy’s Tacos will celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a fiesta beginning at noon on Saturday, May 6, at the Village of East Davenport restaurant.

The event will feature live music, contests, food and fun activities for the whole family. A bounce house for kids will be available from noon to 3 p.m. Happy hour is 3-4 p.m.

A taco eating contest will begin at 6:15 p.m. In addition to bragging rights, the first prize is a $50 Rudy’s Tacos gift card and gift basket, and second prize is a $25 Rudy’s gift card. To register, visit the Village of East Davenport location.

Donovan Gustofson and Friends will perform from 4-6 p.m., followed by The Matt Fuller Band from 7-10 p.m.

Cinco de Mayo, May 5, commemorates the anniversary of Mexico’s battle for independence from the French in 1862, according to Rudy’s news release. While Mexican troops were greatly outnumbered and less equipped, on May 5, Mexican forces defeated the French in the Battle of Puebla – one of the first victorious battles to drive out French invaders.

Today, Cinco de Mayo represents the resilience of Mexican culture, the release states, and it’s celebrated with traditions, food, music, parades and fiestas like Rudy’s.
