The Kiwanis Club of Rock Island announced this week it provided 24 new bicycles, along with helmets, locks, and pumps, to youth and families in Rock Island.

On Thursday, Sept. 11, the bicycles were delivered to four local partners: Washington Junior High School’s “Winning Warriors” program, the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, Quad Cities Alliance for Immigrants and Refugees (QCAIR), and World Relief Quad Cities. These organizations will distribute the bikes as awards and opportunities for deserving young people, the Kiwanis Club said.

The project was made possible through donations from Rock Island Kiwanis members, friends of the club, and community partners – including the Quad Cities Bicycle Club.

“Our mission is to make a difference in the lives of children here in Rock Island,” said Jeff Condit, president of the Rock Island Kiwanis. “Providing bicycles not only brings joy, but also encourages independence, healthy lifestyles, and community connection. We are proud to see so many groups come together to make this possible.”

Washington Junior High School will host its first bicycle giveaway in late September, with additional awards to follow in October.

The Rock Island Kiwanis Club is part of Kiwanis International, a global volunteer organization dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. The local club meets weekly on Mondays at noon at the Quad City Botanical Center and supports various service projects that enrich the lives of children and families in Rock Island.
