River Action’s Eddy Awards nominations open until Jan. 21

Mississippi River River Action Eddy Awards
In conjunction with its annual Eddy Awards, River Action is offering Eddy Scholarships to students with a commitment to environmental interests.

Nominations are open for River Action’s 25th Annual Eddy Awards. The awards, which recognize the best work on the Mississippi River in 2023, will be handed out during Fish & Fire, River Action’s 40th Anniversary Celebration.

Nominations should target Quad Citians who have done extraordinary work on the Mississippi River and its riverfront, including its tributaries. Nominations will be accepted through Jan. 21, 2024.

Awards cover six different categories and acknowledge those who act as an eddy, i.e., “going against the current” to accomplish excellence on the Mississippi River in the areas of art, design, revitalization, river activity, education and stewardship, a River Action news release said.

The nominating categories are:

  • Education – innovations, program, curriculum.
  • Design – renovation, new buildings, livability.
  • River Activity – recreation, relaxation.
  • Arts – performance, written word, fine arts.
  • Stewardship – environmental enhancement of the river.
  • Revitalization  – commerce, business, industry.

The list of past winners can be viewed on River Action’s website here.

Nomination forms are available for online submission by visiting www.riveraction.org, or by sending an email to riveraction@riveraction.org

Please include the following information in your email: Category, nominee, contact name and number for nomination and why your nominee deserves an Eddy Award.

Eddy Awards recognize individuals, organizations, corporations, schools, groups, and governments that went against the current to get things done and accomplished outstanding river activity or development — that was well designed and environmentally responsible.
