Rock Island Parks & Recreation has announced that the free concert series, Thursday Night Groove, will kick off in Schwiebert Park beginning Thursday, Aug. 17.Â
The series — presented by Rock Island Happy Joe’s with additional sponsorship from Alternating Currents, Mississippi Valley Blues Society, Friendship Manor, Gas & Electric Credit Union (GECU), The Arc of the Quad Cities and Bent River Brewing Company — will be held on the Ellis Kell Stage at Schwiebert Riverfront Park. The riverfront park is located at First Avenue and 18th Street in Rock Island.Â
Admission is free to each all-ages concert. Events begin at 6 p.m. each night, and will feature a Rock Island Parks Concession Stand with hamburgers, pork tenderloins, brats and hot dogs, Happy Joe’s Pizza, and beer sales by Bent River Brewing Company.Â
Concerts will run 7-9 p.m. The lineup includes:
Aug. 17: Lissie, presented by Alternating Currents.
Aug. 24: Kara Grainger Band, presented by Mississippi Valley Blues Society.Â
Aug. 31: Funktastic 5, GECU Night.
Sept. 7: Crooked Cactus Band, The Arc of the QC Night.
Sept. 14: Class of ’82.
Sept. 21: Soul Storm.
Sept. 28: For Those About to Yacht.
Oct. 5: Far Out 283.
Oct. 12: Fair Warning.
Oct. 19: Reserved for rain date if needed.Â
The nine bands in this year’s lineup cover a great mix of music including rock, funk, soul, R&B and blues, according to a news release.Â
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Outside alcohol is not permitted. Event parking will be available after 6 p.m. in the lot at 17th Street and First Avenue next to the playground, or across First Avenue and throughout downtown Rock Island.Â
