Members of the Rock Island County Democratic Central Committee have unanimously endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for U.S. president, the organization said in a news release.
“Democrats in Rock Island County are united behind Vice President Kamala Harris,” said Illinois Sen. Mike Halpin, who also chairs the Rock Island County Democratic Party. “Her experience as vice president, U.S. senator and attorney general, combined with her record of achievement during the Biden/Harris administration, makes her a great choice to lead the ticket in November.”
He added in the release “Vice President Harris has helped lead an administration that has created 15 million jobs during the last four years – a record. The Quad Cities will benefit from that progress and leadership,” said Halpin.
Mr. Halpin also said that in the days since Ms. Harris announced her candidacy, he’s seen an increase in enthusiasm among Democrats around the county. “Her candidacy has created a positive ripple effect across the county and the country,” he said. “We’ve already heard from more young people who are excited to volunteer in this election cycle.”
The contrasts between Ms. Harris and former President Donald Trump also will help the Harris ticket attract late deciders and independents, Mr. Halpin said in the release. “Protecting freedoms – notably women’s reproductive freedoms – will offer voters a sharp contrast between the two presidential candidates,” he added.
Pritzker great choice
In addition, Mr. Halpin said that while QC area Democrats want J.B. Pritzker to keep leading the State of Illinois as governor, adding him to the Harris ticket as the vice presidential nominee would make good sense.
“Governor Pritzker would be a great choice, both from a governmental point of view and from because he would be a strong Midwestern nominee who would help the ticket win the critical blue wall states,” Mr. Halpin said.
