The Friends of Hauberg Civic Center Foundation will host the grand opening of the estate’s Carriage House from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 30, at 1300 24th St., Rock Island. Free tours will be available of the building’s first and second floors.

Before and after pictures of the first floor renovations also will be available, and visitors can have a cocktail in the Hauberg Haus Bar, visit a gift shop, eat some cookies and help the group celebrate the renovation’s completion.

Visitors also will see the end result of the Friends of Hauberg Board’s re-imagination of the 8,000-square-foot Carriage House, which, according to the City of Rock Island, is part of Phase I of a three-phase capital campaign to the estate’s sustainability.

The first floor includes the Auto House event and classroom space, the Carriage Haus Bar and the Hauberg Stables Gift Shop. The second floor features a 2,600 square-foot apartment, known as Andrew’s Place, which will begin as funding becomes available this year for renovation into an Airbnb.

Visitors to the Hauberg also can sit on a bench, visit the garden, walk a path or bike around the grounds.

Families also can use the trip to evaluate the Carriage House, Mansion or Gardens as a potential site of milestone life events including graduations, weddings, celebrations of life, local families can rent. The Hauberg family becomes a part of their family history. Historic lectures and tours educate, while music and events entertain. The re-imagining of the Carriage House is creating opportunities for the community to experience local history, architecture, gardens and social events through shared experiences and interactions.
