Register now for Trinity College’s health care camp

Trinity College

Area high school students may register now for Trinity College of Nursing & Health Sciences’ Healthcare Experience Summer Camp, Rock Island, which will run from July 24-28.

The camp, hosted in collaboration between Trinity College, UnityPoint Health and local emergency services, will allow high school students who may be interested in health care to explore careers in the field and gain some hands-on experience, the college said in a news release.

“Getting students interested and excited about a career in health care helps them start thinking about their future,” Bobbi Biringer, the college’s dean of enrollment management, said in the release.

“With so many ways to make a difference in health care, we hope to provide opportunities for them to see how they can build a lifelong career in service and gain some practice skills they can use in their everyday life.”

At the camp, students will:

  • Shadow a nurse, radiological technologist or laboratory technician at UnityPoint Health, Rock Island.
  • Experience patient simulation labs at Trinity College.
  • Visit first responder stations, including first aid and basic CPR.
  • Meet members of the Rock Island Fire Department and EMS and watch a Medforce helicopter land, weather permitting.
  • Meet health care professionals, UnityPoint Health recruiters and Trinity College staff.
  • Test skills in a health care obstacle course.

“By hosting events like the Healthcare Experience Summer Camp, we are able to introduce the next generation of nurses, radiographers and medical laboratory scientists to the rewarding career opportunities in health care and help students zero in on where their interests lie,” said Tracy Poelvoorde, chancellor of Trinity College.

“Trinity College is uniquely positioned in our community to impact the health care workforce by preparing and developing future health care professionals.”

Registration for camp is $30, and scholarships are available. The camp will run from 8 a.m. to noon each day and be held at Trinity College of Nursing & Health Sciences, 2122 25th Ave., Rock Island. Register by Monday, May 1, here.
