
Quad Cities Bike to Work Week is Monday through Sunday, May 12-18, with free commuter breakfasts May 12-16.
The Quad Cities Bicycle Club is encouraging residents to cycle to work to promote healthier lifestyles, a greener future and more livable communities.
Dean Mathias, a cycling advocate with the QCBC, said the organization is excited to see the Quad Cities embrace cycling as a convenient and sustainable form of transportation. Mr. Mathias added Bike to Work Week is a good opportunity to enjoy the benefits of biking and connect with fellow commuters, whether they are experienced riders or beginners.
Free breakfasts for cyclists and supporters of bike-friendly communities will be offered from 6-9 a.m., with extended hours to 10 a.m. on Friday, May 16. Breakfast locations include:
- Monday, May 12: Bass Street Landing, Moline, sponsored by the City of Moline, Renew Moline, Downtown Moline Centre and QCBC.
- Tuesday, May 13: On the bike trail at the foot of the ramp to the Government Bridge, Davenport, sponsored by QCBC.
- Wednesday, May 14: Leach Park, Bettendorf, sponsored by the City of Bettendorf, Downtown Bettendorf Organization and QCBC.
- Thursday, May 15: On the bike trail at the foot of the ramp to the Government Bridge, Davenport, sponsored by QCBC.
- Friday, May 16 (Bike to Work Day): Schwiebert Riverfront Park, Rock Island, sponsored by the Rock Island Downtown Alliance, Modern Woodmen of America, City of Rock Island, Rock Island Parks & Recreation and QCBC.
Additional breakfast sponsors include Wright Cycles, Healthy Habits, Jerry & Sparky’s Bicycle Shop, Ruby’s Bikes, and Trek Bicycle Davenport.
Cycling benefits include reduced carbon emissions, improved physical and mental well-being, and community connection.
