The Quad Cities Bicycle Club (QCBC) will host its “Christmas in July” Bike Tour on Sunday, July 13, offering participants a chance to enjoy a leisurely ride while supporting a charitable cause.
All proceeds will benefit Bikes For Tykes, an annual initiative by the QCBC that provides bicycles and accessories to children from needy families.
The tour is open to both QCBC members and the public. It begins at noon at Front Street Brewery’s taproom in the Freight House on Davenport’s riverfront. The tour covers about 10 miles and is expected to conclude about 4 p.m. at the taproom.Â
Cyclists will visit five local breweries throughout the tour, including Front Street Brewery, Stomp Box Brewery, and Great River Brewery in downtown Davenport; Adventurous Brewing in downtown Bettendorf; and Bent River Brewery in downtown Moline.
Participation costs $10, payable in cash at the start. Advance registration is not required. Non-alcoholic beverages will be available at every stop. Participants are required to wear a helmet. Special beverage and food options also will be offered along the route.
Participants will receive a card to track their brewery visits. Completed cards will be entered into a raffle at the end of the tour, with winners receiving a gift basket from one of the participating venues.
Winners do not need to be present to claim their prize. While participants can start the tour later than noon, they must visit all five breweries to be eligible for a prize. A 50-50 drawing also will be held.
In 2024, through a partnership with Toys For Tots, the Bikes For Tykes program donated 160 bicycles, each accompanied by a package including a helmet, air pump, lock, and a Whitey’s gift certificate.
