    Some people call small homes and apartments by many names. They are granny flats, in-law suites, basement apartments, garage apartments or backyard bungalows.

    Many know them as separate, self-contained living units on the same lot as a primary home. Or they call them by a more formal name – accessory dwelling units (ADUs).
