QC libraries, MetroLINK partner for summer reading programs

There’s still time to enjoy the partnership between area libraries in Illinois and MetroLINK which provides free bus fares for area youth participating in summer reading programs.

Libraries in East Moline, Moline, Rock Island and Silvis have partnered with MetroLINK so children ages 4 to 12 — who are traveling with a paying adult — may use a valid library card from one of those locations as their fare while traveling to and from the libraries through July 31.

Summer programs that are still being held this month include:

  • East Moline Public Library, Find Your Voice: Through Saturday, July 22, readers may earn tickets toward prizes and baskets for the grand prize at the end of the summer program.
  • Rock Island Public Library, Find Your Voice: Through Monday, July 31, this program helps readers of all ages find their story, develop new interests and find outlets for self-expression and creativity.
  • Silvis Public Library, Oceans of Possibilities: Through Monday, July 31, dive into reading and earn rewards for reaching reading milestones through this all-ages summer program.

MetroLINK bus routes located near area libraries include:

  • Rock Island Public Library: Downtown Library, 401 19th St.; Rock Island Watts-Midtown Branch, 2715 30th St.; and Southwest Library, 9010 Ridgewood Road, Rock Island.
  • East Moline Public Library: 745 16th Ave., East Moline.
  • Silvis Public Library: 806 First Ave., Silvis.

Summer reading programs and events are open to anyone. For more information, contact the respective library in your city.
