To honor the region’s veterans, area organizations are planning special events to mark Veterans Day on Monday.
Here’s a look at some of the activities:
Trinity Freedom Run donation
The Trinity Freedom Run 5K race director, Joe Moreno, will present a $10,000 check from this year’s race to Trinity Health Foundation at 11 a.m. Monday at UnityPoint Health – Bettendorf Hospital, 4500 Utica Ridge Rd. The donation will support the Military and Veterans Services Fund through Trinity Health Foundation.
Lutheran Living ceremony
MUSCATINE, Iowa – Lutheran Living Senior Campus, a local Continuing Care Retirement Community, invites the public to attend a ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday to remember and honor our community’s veterans. The ceremony will be at Lutheran Living, located at 2421 Lutheran Drive.
Members of The Edward H. Bitzer American Legion Post 27 and pianist, Rev. Aleese Kenitzer, will lead attendees in singing patriotic songs. Following the ceremony, participants can meet Lutheran Living’s new Executive Director Andrew Harris and enjoy fellowship and refreshments.
RIA National Cemetery ceremony
The Rock Island National Cemetery will hold its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11, at the Committal Shelter 2 on Arsenal Island.
The keynote speaker will be Command Sgt. Maj. Christopher Prosser, the senior enlisted advisor of First Army. Mr. Prosser has served in various armor, infantry and cavalry units throughout his career which began in 1992. His service spans assignments across the country and overseas to include peacekeeping operations in Kosovo as well as combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Veterans Day Ceremony will include a wreath placement as well as an honor salute and taps.
QC Veterans Festival 5k
The Quad Cities Veterans Festival 5k is a new event beginning at 3 p.m. Monday at LeClaire Park in Davenport.
There will be a 5k run, a 1-mile fun run, a kids ½-mile run along with food trucks, fireworks and other activities scuh as games and raffles for the whole family. The event will support the local veterans charity Uncommon Valor. Participants can click here to register.
