The Prairie Farms Family of Companies, which includes Prairie Farms Dairy and Hiland Dairy Foods, announced a new partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) to support the fight against childhood cancer.
The fundraiser, which began at the end of April, will send a portion of the proceeds from all Prairie Farms and Hiland Dairy lemonade sales to ALSF. The companies have pledged a minimum donation of $100,000. The campaign is expected to run for at least the next 12 months according to Prairie Farms public relations manager Darin Copeland.
ALSF, a national organization, was founded in 2005 by Alexandra “Alex” Scott, a 4-year-old battling cancer who started a lemonade stand to raise money for research. Before her death four years later, she raised $1 million, inspiring others to support her mission. Today, ALSF has raised more than $300 million for childhood cancer research and family support.
Headquartered in Edwardsville, Illinois, Prairie Farms’ local footprint includes the former Swiss Valley, which merged into Prairie Farms in 2017. The north Davenport facility houses Prairie Farms Cheese Division. The farmer-owned dairy cooperative also has numerous dairy farmers across the bistate Quad Cities region.
Matt McClelland, Prairie Farms’ CEO and executive vice president, said the new partnership aligns with the company’s commitment to its employees and customers. Hiland Dairy President Rick Beaman highlighted the opportunity for community contribution through lemonade purchases.
Liz Scott, Alex’s mother and co-executive director at ALSF, noted the significance of the partnership in raising awareness and funds in the Midwest and South, connecting with the foundation’s grassroots origins.
Prairie Farms and Hiland Dairy lemonade, available in pints, quarts, and half gallons, will feature special ALSF labels with a QR code. The products are sold at retailers across Mid-America.
