Pool, park seasons begin soon in region

It’s almost time for the swimming and camping seasons to begin.

Many area swimming pools, aquatic parks and campgrounds will open for the season with the Memorial Day holiday weekend only days away.

Here is a look at some of the swimming pool and area park openings this holiday weekend:

  • Whitewater Junction Aquatic Center: Whitewater,  17th St and 18th Avenue in Rock Island, will open for the season Saturday, May 25. Call 309-732-SWIM (7946) for more information. Hours are Monday – Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. In late summer, from Aug. 12 through Sept. 2, Whitewater Junction will be open Tuesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday/Holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The first event of the season will be the Back to Pool Bash on Monday, June 3. from noon to 4 p.m. in celebration of the beginning of summer break, including a live DJ and fun games.
  • Riverside Riverslide: This renovated pool park, located at 3300 5th Ave, Moline,  will open for the season and have its grand opening at noon Saturday, May 25. Opening weekend hours will include noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday; and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 26. The updated facility features three new slides – tube slide, body slide and speed slide –  as well as a lazy river, splash pad, shared park shelter, lights, updated concessions and a family restroom, along with an updated pump house, renovated pool house and much more.
  • Davenport city swimming pools and parks: Splash pads at Goose Creek, Cork Hill and Petersen Parks are open daily Memorial Day weekend through through Labor Day (weather permitting) 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Centennial Spray Park will offer Davenport residents a spot to cool off daily beginning typically Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day (weather permitting) 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Go here for more information.
  • East Moline: The East Moline Municipal Swimming Pool, 4011 Archer Drive, summer hours begin on Tuesday, June 4. Go here for more information.
  • Scott County: The Scott County Park Pool, 18850 270th St., Eldridge, will open for the season (weather permitting) from noon to 7 p.m.  May 25-27 for the Memorial Day weekend, and then open for the season starting Saturday, June 1. Go here for more information. West Lake Park Beach will open for the season noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 25. The West Lake Park Campground opened May 17. Also, Heritage Days at Dan Nagle Walnut Grove Pioneer Village, 18817 290th St., Long Grove, will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 26-27.  Also, the Walnut Grove Soda Fountain is open for the season from May 26 to Sept 2. Buffalo Shores is open April through October  6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Buffalo Shores is a 25-acre recreation area located off of State Highway 22, just downstream from Buffalo, Iowa, on the Mississippi River.
  • DeWitt, Iowa: The DeWitt Aquatic Center, 1000 14th St., will open for the season on Saturday, May 25, from 1 to 5 p.m. It will also be open those hours on Sunday and Monday. The Center will open for normal hours on Friday, June 7. Those hours will be 1 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Go here for more information.
