Plans being made for Bix 7 race

Runners and walkers are readying for the 49th annual Quad-City Times Bix 7 race coming up on July 29.

Race Director Michelle Juehring recently announced that the race tagline “Run with the Best” will have new meaning this summer: The Bix will serve as this year’s USA Track & Field’s Men’s and Women’s American National 7-Mile Championships.

This will be the sixth time that the QC will host the championships. Participants will race the same streets as American Olympic hopefuls, and with the summer Olympics in 2024, it’s very likely that the same runners who race in Davenport will compete in next year’s trials.

The total prize purse for the seven-mile race is $67,500, and American elite runners will compete for $50,000 in prize money. An additional $17,500 will be up for grabs through the Caesars Sportsbook Teams Competition, Buick GMC Dealers First Responders & High School Challenge and Russell Beat the Elite race.

Personalized race bibs will be available this summer for the first time, so seven- and two-mile participants have the opportunity to add their name to their race bib.

In addition to hosting the 7-Mile Championship, the Quad-City Times Bix 7 has become the newest member of the Professional Road Racing Organization (PRRO) Circuit, and will serve as the third stop on the organization’s 2023-2024 circuit. The PRRO Circuit consists of America’s Classic Road Races, which have a history of providing prize money for elite athletes and serving as bucket-list races for others.

Fellow PRRO Circuit events include the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile in Washington, D.C.; the Lilac Bloomsday Run 12K in Spokane, Washington, and Boilermaker 15K in Utica, New York.

Race weekend starts on Thursday, July 27, with the Genesis Sports Medicine Brady Street Sprints, followed by the Arconic Jr Bix kids race on Friday, July 28, and the Saturday’s Quad-City Times Bix 7 and the two-mile Prairie Farms Quick Bix. Virtual race options are available for the seven-mile, two-mile and Jr Bix.
