ELDRIDGE, Iowa – The Dr. Brent Ohl Strong Pancreatic Cancer Support and Awareness Organization will host its 10th annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Tailgate at the Eldridge Community Center on Nov. 15, starting at 11 a.m.
The event coincides with Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. It will precede the University of Iowa vs. USC football game with all proceeds supporting local pancreatic cancer patients.
Attendees are encouraged to wear purple, the color of pancreatic cancer awareness, to the “Purple Out Zone.” The event will feature a tailgate-style meal for $10, raffles, a silent auction, and opportunities to meet survivors and honor loved ones.
“This tailgate is more than just a pre-game party,” said Peggy Ohl, wife of the late Brent Ohl. “It’s a chance for us to stand together, educate others and support the fight against a disease that touches so many lives.”
Highlights include:
- Purple Out Zone: Attendees are encouraged to wear Ohl Strong purple shirts, sweatshirts, or any purple attire.
- Memory and Fighter Purple Ribbon: A dedicated space to honor those lost and celebrate those currently fighting.
- Tailgate Food and Drinks: Pulled pork from The Village Corner Deli, sides from Lady Di’s, and dessert cookies from Cookies by Design.
- Fundraising Activities: Raffle drawings and a silent auction.
Admission is free, with a meal available for $10, which includes a drink. Cookies will be sold separately, and a bar will offer additional drinks for purchase. Proceeds will go to the Dr. Brent Ohl Strong Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Endowment Fund at the Trinity Health Foundation. It provides $500 Visa gift cards to pancreatic cancer patients within a 75-mile radius. The foundation also offers additional support through a “Make a Memory/Ohl Opportunity” grant.
