‘Pack the Bus’ school supply drive starts today

The Genesis “Pack the Bus” school supply drive is set for Monday through Thursday, Aug. 7-10, to collect items that students need for the school year and to help celebrate Genesis Health System’s 150th anniversary.

In the four-year history of the supply drive, Genesis employees and the public have donated 37,508 items with an estimated value of $67,326. The supplies have been distributed to schools across the Quad Cities area to help families who may not have the resources to send their children to school with all the necessary supplies.

Volunteers will collect donations at school buses parked at these locations from Aug. 7-10: (Collections each day will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 3:45 p.m.)

  • Genesis Medical Center (GMC)-East Campus, Monday, Aug. 7, at the parking lot close to Rusholme Street, between the Heart Institute and Edgerton building.
  • GMC-West Campus, Tuesday, Aug. 8, at the north side/Central Park Avenue parking lot, near the atrium.
  • GMC-Silvis Campus, Wednesday, Aug. 9, in the corner of the main parking lot.
  • North Scott Hy-Vee store, Eldridge, Thursday, Aug. 10, in the parking lot.

Some of the school supplies needed include: highlighters, facial tissues, dry erase markers, No. 2 pencils, pencil boxes, crayons, bleach wipes, glue sticks, washable markers, hand sanitizer, spiral notebooks – wide-lined, liquid glue, scissors, colored pencils, art brushes, binders (three-ring), two-pocket polders (plastic or paper), individual pencil sharpeners, ink pens, Scotch tape, tabbed dividers for three-ring binders, Zip Lock bags, note cards, mechanical pencils, AAA batteries and headphones (not earbuds).
