ORA Orthopedics announced on Monday, Sept. 22, that it will soon end its partnership with MercyOne Genesis, and stop orthopedic emergency and trauma service at two area hospitals.
In an emailed message, ORA said it made the “very difficult decision” to end those orthopedic services at MercyOne Genesis East Hospital in Davenport and MercyOne Genesis Illini Hospital in Silvis, effective Thursday, Dec. 18.
MercyOne Genesis told the Quad Cities Regional Business Journal late Monday that it has started to expand services and “uninterrupted care in orthopedic services” will continue at the area hospitals.
Monday’s statement from ORA said: “For more than 60 years, ORA Orthopedics has been proud to partner with Genesis Health System, working together to care for generations of families across our community. However, with the transition of Genesis into MercyOne, we have experienced a shift in values that no longer aligns with how we believe exceptional orthopedic care should be delivered.”
The statement added: “ORA Orthopedics will no longer provide orthopedic emergency or trauma coverage at MercyOne Genesis East Hospital in Davenport or MercyOne Genesis Illini Hospital in Silvis. This was a very difficult decision, but one made with a clear purpose: to remain true to our mission of putting our patients and their care first.”
MercyOne responds
MercyOne Genesis issued its own statement on the situation late Monday. It said:
“Earlier this spring, ORA Orthopedics initiated the termination of our longstanding partnership without cause. Since then, MercyOne Genesis has advanced our efforts to redefine and expand orthopedic care throughout the Quad Cities and Clinton communities, which includes introducing new providers and additional locations to complement our robust care offerings in eastern Iowa. This expansion began earlier this summer and will continue for the next few months. Patients may continue to look to MercyOne Genesis and MercyOne Clinton Medical Center for uninterrupted care in orthopedic services and beyond.”
ORA’s statement message is on ORA’s website and its Facebook page.
Those posts also said that ORA will continue to:
- Deliver orthopedic care at all of its clinic locations.
- Provide orthopedic emergency and trauma coverage at UnityPoint hospitals in Bettendorf, Rock Island, and Moline where patients can receive orthopedic emergency care from an ORA physician.
- Offer same-day orthopedic access at its Urgent OrthoCARE walk-in clinics, open seven days a week with evening and weekend hours. No referral or appointment necessary.
“We remain committed to our promise to provide the highest-quality, most advanced orthopedic care available,” according to Monday’s statement.
ORA is currently building a $50 million medical facility in north Bettendorf at 5250 Competition Drive in the business area surrounding the TBK Bank Sports Complex. The new 113,000-square-foot medical facility and administrative headquarters will feature a state-of-the-art clinic, outpatient surgery center and more.
ORA Orthopedics is the QC’s largest and most comprehensive orthopedic provider offering an integrated continuum of orthopedic care that includes orthopedic subspeciality clinics, walk-in care at urgent orthocare clinics, diagnostic imaging, bracing, physical therapy and outpatient surgery, according to the ORA website.
