A new Kwik Trip/Kwik Star convenience store and gas station is coming to Bettendorf – perhaps next year.

The new store will be located on three acres at 5007 53rd Ave., Bettendorf, which is just west of the Middle Road intersection.

The Bettendorf City Council on Tuesday, Sept. 5, approved a resolution for the site development plan for the new Kwik Trip/Star. The council discussed the plans during Tuesday’s committee of the whole meeting before giving it the OK as part of a consent agenda item during the regular council meeting, which was also held on Tuesday.

Mark D. Hunt, community development director for Bettendorf, pointed out several of the features planned for the new store during Tuesday’s committee of the whole. They include:

  • The building will be a little more than 11,000 square feet and sit on three acres of land.
  • 10 fuel pumps.
  • A car wash.
  • Outdoor eating space.
  • Numerous trees are expected to be planted around the property as part of the landscaping work.

At this point, however, it’s not known when construction work on the store will begin.

Kacie Bonjour, real estate manager for Kwik Trip, was at Tuesday’s meeting. She told the QCBJ that company officials wanted to first make sure the new store received city approval. The next step is for the company to budget the new store project and schedule its construction.

Ms. Bonjour later told the QCBJ “we would love to open sometime in 2024.”

The new Bettendorf store will likely hire about 30 to 35 employees, she added.

The business, which is headquartered in La Crosse, Wisconsin, has more than 700 stores in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois, and more than 35,000 employees. Its first store opened in 1965.

The company’s convenience stores in Iowa and Illinois are called Kwik Star. Stores in other states are called Kwik Trip, according to the company’s Facebook page.
