“They like this place because there’s a lot of traffic around here. …. There’s a lot of Mexican food places in the area, but not any other Honduras restaurant. So, it’s something new for the area,” said Erlinda Hernandez, 20, who is one of Letby Yaneth Hernandez’s daughters. (Erlinda Hernandez is not one of the restaurant’s owners, but helped with translations for her mother and two sisters on Friday.)Quad Cities Chamber members on hand at the opening ceremony said they liked what they saw and ate at Delicias Catrachas. Some of the menu items include:
Desayuno (breakfast dish): This includes eggs, refried beans, cheese, butter and more.
Tacos dorados de pollo (crispy chicken tacos).
Carne molida con tajadas (fried green plantains (tajadas) topped with ground beef.
Chuleta frita (fried pork chop).
Enchilados.
In addition to its menu items, the Delicias Catrachas restaurant is all about Honduras. The interior walls of the business are painted white with a blue stripe at the top of the walls. (The Honduran flag features two horizontal blue stripes and a central white stripe with five blue stars.)The exterior of the restaurant also includes the white and blue colors, along with an artful logo of the three women owners of Delicias Catrachas.“It’s really good for the Hilltop to have another restaurant. … It’s something exciting in the neighborhood,” said Brian Kramer, executive director of Hilltop Campus Village, a nonprofit Iowa Main Street organization that promotes economic and community development in the central Davenport neighborhood. Mr. Kramer was one of the local business officials on hand Friday for the opening of the new business. The storefront that now houses Delicias Catrachas has a long history of hosting businesses that served up tasty meals. The Life Breads Gluten-Free Bakery was there at 1509 N. Harrison St. until it closed Dec. 24, 2024. Before that, the storefront was once home to Zeke’s Island Cafe, and Lumpy’s Bar & Grill several years ago.For more information on Delicias Catrachas and its hours of operations, visit its Facebook page or call (319) 231-1000.
