He said the idea for a new medical clinic started during the lockdown days of the pandemic. “During COVID, everybody was soul searching and I was doing the same thing,” he said, adding that he lost friends during the pandemic. He decided to contact American Family Care and apply for a franchise to bring an AFC clinic to the Quad Cities. “I applied. They liked me. So, here we are today,” he added. This is the first AFC medical clinic in Iowa. The facility, which is about a $2 million investment, has 12 employees and is in a 3,400-square-foot medical building, Mr. Patel said. Its services include treatment for injuries and illnesses; digital x-ray; lab testing; vaccinations and physicals; and occupational health, according to Dr. D.V. Singh, the new clinic’s medical director. It does not offer treatment for life-threatening conditions, according to AFC.Bryan Barnes, an official with AFC who was at Tuesday’s opening ceremonies in Davenport, said the company is very selective about approving new franchises. But AFC is “super excited” to be in the Quad Cities.“We want to bring the community together with health care,” he added.Mr. Barnes said AFC’s goals are guided by the company’s mission statement, which is on the wall in the new clinic’s waiting area. It says: “Our mission is to provide the best healthcare possible in a kind and caring environment, in an economical manner, while respecting the rights of all of our patients, at times and locations convenient to the patient.”AFC, based in Birmingham, Alabama, was founded in 1982 by Dr. Bruce Irwin. Today, the company has more than 300 clinics in 28 states and plans to have 500 clinics by 2025. In November, the company celebrated the opening of its 300th clinic when a facility opened in Wendell, North Carolina, according to the company’s website.
