That new building – the former home of Home Bound Healthcare, located at the corner of 16th Street and 36th Avenue – has about 8,400 square feet of space. It is located a few blocks north of SouthPark Mall, and has been vacant for a couple of years. MMCU’s current building has about 2,500 square feet.Mr. Vynke added that MMCU’s move will create more energy for that part of Moline.“We’re so crowded in our current building. … We’ve been looking around for a new place for years,” said Connie Adkison, president/CEO of the credit union. If all goes according to schedule, MMCU will move into its new home in late summer. That structure is a one-story former office building that was built in 1968. It sold for $690,000 in 2011, according to real estate records.Ms. Adkison said that one of the big reasons MMCU was attracted to the building is because the credit union can give new life to a vacant structure. Plus, the interior renovation of the building will be a relatively quick chore, and not a complete gutting of the building.
Garage turned drive-through
One of the features of the current building that will be changed is a small garage attached to the north end of the structure. That garage area will be turned into a drive-through lane for the credit union, said Ms. Adkison.MMCU officials on Tuesday did not disclose the cost of the move and renovation project. The building at 3401 16th St. is still very much a work in progress. For instance, workers with Valley Commercial Construction were on the job during the Tuesday morning ground-breaking ceremony. Also, HBH (Home Bound Healthcare) logos and signs are still on display around and on the front of the building. But the credit union’s president/CEO can see the possibilities and future features of the building. She was telling people about those features – including offices for staff, front reception area and much more – while giving tours on Tuesday.“We’ve got five bathrooms in this place, and we’re going to keep them all,” Ms. Adkison told one group of visitors during a quick tour.MMCU’s current location on 15th Street will close when the credit union moves later this year. That site will eventually be sold or rented out. Credit union officials are still considering options for the location, Mr. Vynke said.MMCU has been in business since 1935. The credit union offers a wide variety of financial services, including savings and checking accounts, IRAs, loans, online banking and much more.
