Midwest Hope & Healing has awarded $7,000 in grants this summer through the Moline Foundation to support area breast cancer patients and their families.

For 18 years, Midwest Hope & Healing has encouraged and comforted 4,000 breast cancer patients with signature healing baskets. With the help of donors, the organization also established a grantmaking endowment fund at The Moline Foundation to continue its legacy of caring for those newly diagnosed with breast cancer, according to a news release.

“Each organization provides valuable services to our community and aligns perfectly with MWHH’s mission,” Midwest Hope & Healing Founder Colleen Borts said of the grant recipients in the release.

“We are excited to partner with these individuals so they can continue to provide much-needed hope and healing to a population in need of exactly that.”

This year, MWHH has provided grants to:

  • Boundless Compassion, Self-Compassion and Living with Cancer retreat, $2,000.
  • Genesis Health Foundation, McKay Center for Breast Health fund voucher center, $1,500.
  • Quad Cities Community Broadcasting Group, media messaging for breast and cervical cancer, $1,500.
  • Trinity Health Foundation, pink infusion chair for patients with breast cancer, $1,000.
  • Two Rivers YMCA, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA for Cancer Survivors, $1,000.

“On behalf of Boundless Compassion, I am grateful for being recognized by Midwest Hope & Healing with a grant to help launch spiritual retreats for people impacted by cancer,” said Sister Bobbi Bussan, director of the Benet House Retreat Center at St. Mary Monastery, in the release.

“The ‘Self-Compassion and Living with Cancer’ retreat focuses on being kind and supportive to ourselves as we live with cancer. The retreat series will be at the Benet House Retreat Center in Rock Island.”

The Moline Foundation receives and administers charitable gifts for all citizens in a six-county region including Rock Island, Henry, Mercer, Henderson and McDonough Counties in Illinois and Scott County in Iowa, according to the release.

Last summer, MWHH awarded a total of $7,600 to five area groups.

In the release, Ms. Borts also thanked the Moline Foundation for its commitment to MWHH’s philanthropic efforts.

“We couldn’t do what we do without them.”
