Mercado on Fifth to host 3rd Annual Día de los Muertos parade

For the third consecutive year, the annual Mercado on Fifth Día de los Muertos parade will feature a vibrant parade and a fiesta overflowing with a plateful of Day of the Dead celebrations from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2.

This year’s Quad Cities celebration of this cherished Mexican holiday is especially meaningful, organizers of the downtown Moline Friday night market based at 423 12th St. say.

That’s because for the first time since it launched in 2022 attendees at the 2024 Day of the Dead festivities will be able to honor their ancestors on the actual Day of Remembrance. 

Our community comes together not only to celebrate Mexican culture but also to honor those who are no longer with us, bringing their memories to life through the parade and the altar at the Plaza del Mercado,” Mercado said in urging Quad Citians to join the always packed event. It includes:

Event schedule

  • 10 a.m. Ofrendas Y Recuerdos (offerings and memories). It will feature mariachi music at Mercado’s altar. Attendees also can treat themselves tio Catrina makeup and enjoy an open market with food and vendors. 
  • 2 p.m. – The 3rd Annual Día de los Muertos Desfile (Parade) begins featuring colorful floats and groups. It will travel along River Drive in Moline from the Vibrant Arena at the Mark to 19th Street.
  • 3–5 p.m. – Día de los Muertos Fiesta. The open market will feature the usual Mercado Friday night collection of food and vendors. It also features live music from Grupo Estilo Versátil!
