Local radio personality Mark Manuel is a big fan of Medi-Weightloss, a physician-supervised weight loss program that recently started doing business in the Quad Cities.In the five weeks he has been a Medi-Weightloss customer, he has lost 23 pounds and has gone from a 2X tall shirt to a 1X tall shirt.“They taught me about lean protein. … This is the first diet where I have constantly lost weight,” Mr. Manuel of Davenport told a crowd of about 20 people on Tuesday morning, June 3, during a celebration to welcome Medi-Weightloss to the community.It included a Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting in front of the Medi-Weightloss office at 5359 Eastern Ave., Davenport. (That office is in the Waterford Professional Building near the ultra-busy i 53rd Street and Eastern Avenue intersection.)Medi-Weightloss, which has about 110 offices across the country, opened its first Iowa office in Davenport in April. Sometimes, those plans can include medication, different food choices or lifestyle changes.“It’s based on overall wellness. … We keep weight off for the long term,” she said.The Medi-Weightloss program often includes:

Some of those supplements and products were on display in the Medi-Weighloss front reception area on Tuesday. They included maple brown sugar oatmeal, chocolate protein supplement mix, Chocolate Celebration Delite protein bars, peanut butter and chocolate protein bars.Mr. Manuel also told the crowd he is a big fan of the many protein bars.In addition to the bars and other products, the reception area had a sign on display showing the total weight loss by local residents on the weight-loss program. It initially stated a total of 208 pounds have been dropped by patients since April. Midway through Tuesday’s opening celebration, the sign was updated to 217 pounds.Medi-Weightloss moved to this site at 5359 Eastern Ave., Davenport, in April. He said the program works for him because it often caters to his lifestyle.“The low-carb program is for me. I love eating meats.
