Marco’s Pizza closes four of its Iowa locations, including in Davenport

    Marco’s Pizza has closed four of its Iowa locations, including its location at 3833 N. Division St., Davenport, according to company officials.

    A phone call today, Jan. 8, to the former Davenport Marco’s Pizza location reached an automated message that stated: “Unfortunately, we had to make the difficult decision to close this location, and we will not be reopening.”

    The recording did not detail a reason for the closure.

    Marco’s did have six sites in Iowa – Davenport, Cedar Rapids, North Liberty, Waterloo, Waukee and Windsor Heights. As of Thursday morning, the websites for all of those locations state they are permanently closed. However, an official from Marco’s Pizza corporate office on Thursday said that only four of those locations closed earlier this month. He did not say which pizza sites recently closed.

    Also, when called on Thursday,  the phone messages for most of those sites gives the caller the same automated message as the Davenport location. (The Windsor Heights Marco’s has an automated message stating the number has been disconnected.)

    In addition, as of Thursday the Marco’s Pizza company website did not show any locations in Iowa.  

    On Thursday, Gerardo Flores, chief development office for Marco’s, released this statement: “The franchisee operating the four locations in Iowa that closed Jan. 5 wanted to consolidate its portfolio to develop their other geographic territories. Marco’s plans to open more than 80 new locations in 2026 and would love to speak with prospective Iowa-based franchisees interested in fully developing that market.”

    Marco’s Pizza was founded in 1978 in Oregon, Ohio, by Italian immigrant Pasquale “Pat” Giammarco, who brought authentic Italian pizza-making skills from his childhood in Sulmona, Italy, focusing on fresh ingredients and handmade dough. 

    After building a strong regional brand, Mr. Giammarco sold the company in 2004 to a group led by Jack Butorac, who grew it into a national chain, expanding from about 200 stores in 2010 to over 1,000 locations by 2020.
