MUSCATINE, Iowa – Clarissa McNally, a recent graduate of Muscatine High School, was recognized as Girl Scout of the Year by the Department of Iowa, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States of America (VFW).
The Iowa VFW Scout of the Year program acknowledges members of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for their exceptional citizenship, patriotism and love of country. Ms. McNall received the Gold Award on June 27 in Des Moines.
It is the highest honor a Girl Scout can achieve. She received it for her work educating Iowans on laws concerning funeral processions and their significance.
That work includes researching traffic laws and funeral processions, collaborating with funeral homes and then educating the public about safely and respectfully following traffic laws related to processions.
The Gold Award is available to high school girls who create sustainable change on a community or world issue.
Gold Award Girl Scouts identify the root cause of a problem, plan and implement innovative solutions to drive change, and lead a team to success. As they work to transform their world, Gold Award Girl Scouts gain tangible skills and prove they are the leaders our community and the world need.
