Life Breads Gluten-Free Bakery  – a business specializing in gluten-free baked goods – is planning a celebration in honor of its first year in business at 1509 N. Harrison St., Davenport.

That celebration will be from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, April 29, at the bakery. (Life Breads will be open for normal business on that Monday, but will close at 5:30 p.m. for its celebration. The celebration is open to the public.)

The anniversary event will feature an inflatable photo booth, balloons, limited anniversary T-shirt sales, a DIY sprinkles workshop, refreshments, as well as the release of a new menu and announcements for new developments coming up for the bakery.

Life Breads is a dedicated gluten-free bakery and carries no gluten-containing products or ingredients, eliminating the risk of cross contact for those who have severe sensitivities. The bakery even has a strict “No Outside Food or Drink” policy, sometimes turning potential customers away.

“We’ve had so many (people) with severe allergies or Celiac’s come in who had just given up until we opened. I’ve cried with and hugged so many customers just because this meant so much to them. It’s everything to them and that’s why we do it,” said Meg Reed, the bakery’s general manager.

Life Breads Gluten-Free Bakery opened April 29, 2023. That opening was a huge success. The bakery sold out on their opening day within two hours and continued to remain busy through the holidays, added Ms. Reed.

Before opening its storefront bakery in the Hilltop Campus Village neighborhood, Life Breads had been selling its gluten-free goodies through its website and at various farmers markets in the Quad Cities region.

Over the previous year, Life Breads has already expanded its offerings with new products, such as bagels, pizza crusts, no-rye bread, and vegan bread. The bakery also offers hot tea and coffee.

Also, the business will soon kick off the bakery’s month-long campaign to spread awareness for May’s Celiac Awareness Month. Along with awareness ribbons, Life Breads also promotes the Quad Cities’ chapter for the National Celiac Association
