Launch party set for fledgling Moline parks foundation

Friends of Moline Parks and Recreation Foundation

A launch party has been set for the new Friends of the Moline Parks and Recreation Foundation established last year to support the City of Moline Parks and Recreation Department.

That party will be 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 9,  Pour Bros. Craft Taproom, 1209 4th Ave Suite 2, Moline. It includes a silent auction and Think and Drink Entertainment’s Parks and Recreation trivia from 7 to 9 p.m. Pour Bros. will be donating 10% of daily drink sales to the foundation.

The Friends of Moline Parks and Recreation Foundation was created last year. It supports the the city’s parks and recreation department. The department’s mission is to enhance community wellness and quality of life by providing diverse recreational experiences, exceptional park programs, and well-maintained facilities

The foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) organization. It is led by a 100% volunteer board of directors, composed of Moline residents. The foundation hopes to bring awareness to Moline Parks and Recreation’s projects, facilities and programs. In addition it will help financially support scholarships. That will help Moline youth to participate in free or reduced parks and recreation programming. It also will support capital improvement projects and more.

The group’s mission is to promote the development and sustainability of parks, trails, green space, park facilities and recreation. And it will do that through advocacy and financial support, volunteer opportunities and recognition.
