Kiwanis Club of Rock Island announces 2025 awards

The Kiwanis Club of Rock Island  awarded $12,000 in scholarships and grants to local students and organizations at its annual awards luncheon.

Five high school students were recognized for academic excellence and community service with scholarships: Presence Erodiance, Madison Carroll, and Myles Davis, all from Rock Island High School; and Yazmin Rodriguez and Victor E. Granados, both from Alleman Catholic High School.

Grants also were awarded to these organizations that support children and families: Big Brothers Big Sisters, Martin Luther King Center, Argrow’s House of Healing and Hope, Nest Café, First Tee Quad Cities, Children’s Therapy Center, Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, German American Heritage Center, and Quad City Arts.

The Kiwanis scholarships and grants are funded through various fundraising efforts, including rose sales for Administrative Professionals’ Day, peanut sales in the fall, holiday cheese sales, and through Birdies for Charity with the John Deere Classic.

The Kiwanis Club of Rock Island also supports the community through service projects such as the First Day Fund (Illinois), Midwest Food Pantry distribution, Terrific Kids, and Coats for Kids.

The club is part of Kiwanis International, a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving communities and the lives of children.
