
MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa — Iowa Wesleyan University will celebrate the graduating class of 2023 with its spring commencement ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 6.
This will be the final graduation ceremony at Iowa Wesleyan. The school’s board of trustees recently announced the university will close on Thursday, May 31, due to financial considerations.
Commencement will provide an opportunity to recognize more than 120 undergraduate and graduate students for their academic accomplishments. Abena Sankofa Imhotep, director of Sankofa Literary & Empowerment Group and Sankofa Strategies Counseling, will be the commencement speaker. A celebration song, written by graduating senior Journey Allison, will be performed by the Iowa Wesleyan choir.
Alumni and friends, and their families, also are invited to gather for the ceremony in the Ruble Arena to celebrate the final Iowa Wesleyan graduating class. A live stream also will be available on the Iowa Wesleyan YouTube channel, and KILJ Radio will air it live on 105.5 FM and kilj.com.
