Iowa high school students in grades 9-12 are encouraged to register for the Iowa Association of Business and Industry’s Business Horizons, a statewide summer innovation program held from Sunday to Thursday, July 13-17, at Drake University in Des Moines.
The five-day program offers hands-on entrepreneurial activities and collaborative challenges to enhance problem-solving, creativity, and leadership skills. Students will work in teams to develop business solutions to real-world problems and participate in entrepreneurial competitions.
Participants will engage with industry leaders in interactive workshops on topics such as project management and AI technology. They also will take business tours, learn about Iowa’s entrepreneurial environment through The Jacobson Institute for Youth Entrepreneurship at the University of Iowa, and hear from speakers such as financial literacy advocate Adam Carroll. Participating students may also be eligible to earn three transferable college credits.
Program Director Jessi McQuerrey noted the growth that participants experience. “By the end of the week, they don’t want to leave,” she said. “They accomplish more than they thought possible, gain renewed self-confidence, and meet new friends and mentors.”
The cost is $400 and covers meals, lodging, activities, and materials. A $50 discount is available for students who register by Friday, May 30. Need-based financial assistance is also available through the online registration form.
