Interstate and its employees hosted a Customer Appreciation Day and open house. The day also featured a Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the event, tours of the facility and many of Interstate’s business partners on site with displays and information tables. The day was held to thank Interstate’s customers, and also showcase some of the services performed by the business, according to Justin Ritz, an 11-year employee of Interstate and an outside sales rep for the company. Mr. Ritz was also one of the workers showing QC chamber members and other visitors some of the features of the Interstate building, which is located on the northern edge of Davenport, near Blain’s Farm and Fleet.

Interstate Power Systems is part of the Interstate Companies group. Interstate Companies, a growing industrial conglomerate headquartered in Minneapolis, operates more than 50 business units in 40 facilities across 14 states in the Midwest, Rocky Mountain, West and Southwest regions.
Interstate was founded in 1957. In its over 66 years in business, it has focused on distribution, sales and support of heavy-duty trucks, diesel engines, industrial bearing and power transmission products, industrial transmissions, power generation, transport refrigeration and other products. Interstate also provides contract assembly services and industrial labor.
Interstate began as Interstate-GM Diesel headquartered in Minneapolis. One of the first Detroit Diesel and Allison Transmission distributors, its primary focus was on the sales and service of engines and transmissions. Beginning in 1986, the company expanded to include additional products and services in locations across Minnesota as well as Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming. Five locations in Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana were added with the acquisition of Inland Power Group in 2015.
Today, Interstate offers sales, service and support for an extensive line of products that includes Allison Transmission, Alliance Truck Parts, Atlas Copco, Carrier Transicold, Detroit Diesel, Deutz, Liebherr, mtu, Volvo Penta and many more. The company has hundreds of certified, experienced, factory-trained, and industry-recognized technicians. The Davenport facility has about 20 employees.
Mr. Wiginton said that in many instances people looking for services will seek out Interstate because the business has a great reputation of getting the job done. “In this business, trucks are breaking down all the time. … We’re here for them,” he told a group of visitors during the tour. The customer event also included features outside Interstate’s building. For instance, an Allison Transmission semi was parked there to showcase some of Allison’s products. The semi was filled with cutout models of transmissions, and large TV screens showing information on Allison’s products and history.“People can get a lot of information about us in here,” Daniel Licari, a marketing employee with Allison, said as he showed some of the display’s features.
