IMEG grows federal, lab capabilities with acquisition

CFR Engineering strengthens East Coast footprint

    Rock Island-based IMEG today announced its recent asset acquisition of the majority of CFR Engineering, a Maryland-based firm recognized for its extensive work supporting federal agencies and mission-critical facilities.

    According to IMEG’s Jan. 5 news release, the transaction strengthens its footprint on the East Coast while expanding its federal, science and technology, and secure facilities capabilities. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. IMEG also announced its acquisition of 

    Buford Goff & Associates (BGA). The South Carolina engineering firm specializes in mechanical, electrical, security, and communications services. 

    Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Germantown, Maryland, CFR Engineering is a full-service Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) and Fire Protection (FP) engineering

    Firm. It has deep expertise in the planning and design of complex research, laboratory, health care, and highly regulated environments. 

    CFR Engineering will operate as an independent, standalone business to support its ongoing federal projects, ensuring uninterrupted service to clients and continuity for active and future work. The firm has delivered more than 2,000 projects for federal and private-sector clients. It has supported modernization and new construction efforts that require rigorous technical performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

    “This transaction strengthens IMEG’s presence in the eastern region while significantly broadening our specialized expertise in complex and highly technical facilities,” IMEG President and CEO Paul VanDuyne said in the release. “By aligning complementary capabilities and a shared commitment to client-focused service, we are expanding our capacity to support complex, mission-driven projects while preserving the specialized structures required to serve federal clients.”

    As part of the transaction, CFR Vice President Jason Sambolt will assume the role of client executive with IMEG. He will provide strategic leadership and suppor day-to-day coordination between teams. IMEG will integrate the acquired assets into its national platform while continuing to operate with strong local leadership and client focus. 

    A shared culture

    CFR will continue to be led by Jeff Ford and Rich Cornwell. The Germantown office will remain in place, with team members continuing to serve clients from that location.

    Mr. Ford and Mr. Cornwell also will serve as strategic consultants to IMEG. They will support client development and growth initiatives within the federal and science and technology sectors.
