IMEG completes trio of year-end acquisitions

QC firm expands Texas, Northwest U.S. presence

Quad Cities-based IMEG announced today, Jan. 9, that it ended 2023 with three company acquisitions — JQ Engineering, E&D Company and ES2 — that are helping expand the national firm’s industrial capabilities and full-service offerings in the Northwest and Texas.

In a news release, IMEG said the deals capped off a 12-month period that added seven firms. They helped grow IMEG, with headquarters in Rock Island, to nearly 2,600 team members at 93 U.S. locations. The three acquisitions add a total of 150 employees to IMEG.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

IMEG President/CEO Paul VanDuyne said in the release: “We are extremely pleased to welcome the JQ, E&D, and ES2 teams into our company. The cultural synergy and expanded specialties these three firms bring us help grow our full-service engineering presence throughout the U.S. – aligning with our value proposition to deliver a client-centric approach with national expertise and local connections.”

The year-end acquisitions include:

  • JQ Engineering (JQ). The Texas-based firm has served clients since 1984, providing structural and civil engineering, land surveying, and facility assessment solutions in multiple market sectors including aviation, commercial, education, government, healthcare, hospitality, housing, science & technology, and sports & recreation. In IMEG’s release, JQ CEO Stephen H. Lucy said his firm is excited to become part of IMEG and help drive continued growth in the greater Texas region.

“We built our strong reputation on being active members of project teams and delivering innovative design with forward-thinking leadership,” he said. “This philosophy blends well with IMEG’s client-centric, outcome-based approach, allowing us to leverage a broader base of market and technical expertise.”

The merger expands the firms’ Texas-based staff to more than 200 team members at offices in Austin, Bastrop, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio.

Existing JQ teams will do business as JQ now IMEG. Mr. Lucy and JQ Partner Chris Story will continue to serve as regional team leaders.

  • Engineering System Solutions (ES2) has offices in Idaho Falls, Idaho; Sacramento, California; and Las Vegas. The firm has delivered terminal and plant design solutions for decades, providing clients with structural, mechanical, electrical and controls design as well as civil, rail, bulk material handling, process engineering, and advanced soil and finite element analysis services.

The firm’s leaders, Justin Judy and Greg Meyer, said in the release that their team is looking forward to being part of IMEG and the ability it brings to offer clients an expanded, full line of engineering services — all with the same local team.

Mr. Judy, Mr. Meyer, and other key personnel will continue to serve in regional leadership roles. The team will do business as Engineering System Solutions (ES2), now IMEG.

  • E&D Company, is an Idaho Falls-based owner’s representative and engineering firm providing civil, rail, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering design along with automation, geotechnical and owner’s rep services. For nearly 20 years, E&D has worked with private and public organizations across the globe. E&D is in market d.b.a. ES2.

The ES2 firm’s leader Doug Weber will continue to serve in a regional leadership role and the firm will operate from its existing locations, doing business as E&D d.b.a. ES2, now IMEG.

All three firms will continue to operate out of their existing locations, IMEG said.

IMEG is 100% employee-owned and results-driven with a passion for transforming environments and communities through high-performance design and infrastructure. With 93 offices and nearly 2,600 team members, IMEG serves regions and markets with full-service, in-house engineering design.
