Illinois Storm Chasers give free presentation at RI library

Illinois Storm Chasers

Whether severe weather fascinates you, keeps you on high alert or a little of both, learn more about it during a Severe Weather 101 presentation at 2 p.m. Friday, June 30, at the Rock Island Library’s Watts-Midtown Branch, 2715 30th St.

Throughout nearly 10 years in the weather industry, Nick Bartholomew of Illinois Storm Chasers has seen the worst of our Midwest weather. During the presentation, he will share some of his severe weather experiences, tell you what to look for, and answer questions about preparing for Midwestern storms, according to a Rock Island Library news release.

The free hour-long presentation is designed for adults, although older children and teens may also attend.

Founded in 2015 by owners Danny Neal and Adam Lucio, Illinois Storm Chasers was created to bring accurate, non-sensationalized weather coverage to the state, according to the release. In addition to presentations and storm-spotter training, Illinois Storm Chasers offers specialized threat assessment maps, a website, weather app, alert system and Facebook page with more than 339,000 followers.

Illinois Storm Chasers also partners with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Weather Ready Nation – Ambassador program designed to strengthen national resilience against extreme weather.

In April, the Rock Island Public Library became an officially recognized Climate Resilience Hub of CREW, or Communities Responding to Extreme Weather, according to the release. As a hub, the library provides information, resources, events and public spaces that help the community better prepare for severe weather and climate issues.
