    Holmes Murphy, an Iowa-based independent, privately held insurance brokerage, has been recognized as the leading large employer in the insurance industry by the Best Places to Work in Insurance program. 

    The annual report is presented by Business Insurance and Best Companies Group. It identifies firms with the highest levels of employee engagement and satisfaction.

    Based in Waukee, Iowa, Holmes Murphy also operates an office at 4550 E. 53rd St. #100 in Davenport. It provides risk management and benefits consulting. With over 1,300 employees, the company emphasizes a culture of caring. That empowers its team members to shape their own professional journeys. Employees reportedly value the company’s “dress for your day” attire guidelines, shareholder opportunities, and responsible time-off program.

    The Best Places to Work in Insurance program identifies leading employers through a two-part assessment. It includes an employer questionnaire on policies, practices, and demographics, and a confidential employee survey. Data is analyzed across eight core focus areas. They are leadership and planning, corporate culture and communications, role satisfaction, work environment, relationship with supervisor, training, development and resources, pay and benefits, and overall engagement.

    Employers are categorized by the number of employees. They are: small (25-249 , medium (250-999), and large (1,000 ). In the 2025 report, Tokio Marine North America Services was the top medium employer. TexCap Insurance was named the top small employer.
