History revisits the Capitol with Buddy Holly tribute

The Capitol Theater will host John Mueller’s Winter Dance Party performing the music of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper on Friday, Feb. 7.

The original Winter Dance Party tour played the historic Capitol Theatre in downtown Davenport on Jan. 29, 1959, only four days before a tragic plane crash that took the lives of the rising rock and roll stars and was coined as “The Day the Music Died” by Don McLean.

Tickets for the show can be found at www.capitoltheatreqc.com. Tickets begin at $35.

John Mueller’s “Winter Dance Party” is the official live and authentic re-creation of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper’s final tour and the only show endorsed by the Holly, Valens and Richardson estates. Each live concert performance includes more than two hours of unbridled, high voltage entertainment featuring all the hit songs of the 50’s era. They include: That’ll Be The Day, Peggy Sue, Oh, Boy, Rave on, La Bamba, Chantilly Lace, and many, many more.

The Capitol was the only seated venue on the tour, as all other venues scheduled were ballrooms. Presumably to avoid confusion with audiences, the Davenport show was renamed Concert of Stars, as the Capitol did not have a dance floor.
