The Davenport Community School District High School Apprentice Signing Day will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, at the Waterfront center in Bettendorf.

During this event, 55 students from the school district will be signing apprenticeships with area employers.

The apprenticeships are a chance for high school students to gain real-world work experience, the district said. They learn technical and professional skills through related training with Davenport Schools and on-the-job learning with a partner company.

With 55 of the 240 total apprentices in the state, the Davenport Community School District currently leads Iowa in apprenticeships.
