Supporters are invited to help Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities celebrate the launch of Homes No. 143 and No. 144 in Davenport this weekend.

The public is invited to the groundbreaking ceremonies on Saturday, Aug. 5. This first one will be at 10 a.m. at 513 East Dover Court. This empty lot will be the future home of Katelyn and her family. It was funded using HOME Funds and a grant from the QC Housing Council.

The second groundbreaking will be at 11 a.m. at 424 East 15th St. This empty lot will be the future home of Destiny and her family. The home is sponsored by SCRA, the congregation of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Quad City Bank & Trust, and Fund for Humanity.

Habitat QC hopes to dedicate two additional home builds later this year.

The organization says its affordable homeownership program is a long-term solution to the affordable housing crisis in the Quad Cities and beyond. Habitat partner families must complete a minimum of 250 volunteer hours of sweat equity. They also must attend mandatory homeownership preparation classes with support of a volunteer mentor.

When their home is finished, partner families purchase the home from Habitat with affordable monthly payments on a zero-interest mortgage.

The Quad Cities affiliate has served low-income families for nearly 32 years. It also operates a home repair program and an accessibility ramp program for low-income homeowners.
