The public is invited to celebrate the start of a new Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities home in East Moline.

A ground-breaking ceremony for Habitat home No. 147 will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at 1360 Morton Drive.

The new house will be the future home of Akua Fidegnon and her family. This home is funded thanks to a multi-year gift from the John Deere Foundation. This home is the third built with the John Deere Foundation and one of three current projects underway in Illinois.

Habitat’s homeownership program is a long-term solution to the affordable housing crisis. Habitat partner families must complete a minimum of 250 volunteer hours of sweat equity and attend mandatory homeownership preparation classes with the support of a volunteer mentor.

When their home build is finished, partner families purchase the home from Habitat with affordable monthly payments on a zero interest mortgage.

Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities has served low-income families with the construction of affordable homes. Habitat will dedicate eight homes this year in the region, totaling 147 homes since 1993. In addition, Habitat has completed more than 70 home repairs and 60+ accessibility ramps.
