Ann Friederichs, director of the Illinois Small Business Development Center at Western Illinois University, was named a recipient of the prestigious 2024 SBDC State Star Award for Illinois. The State Star Award recognizes top performers in the SBDC network who demonstrate exemplary service, dedication and success in helping small businesses thrive.

In a news release, Ms. Friederichs expressed her gratitude and emphasized the collective effort behind the recognition.

“While my name is on the award, this is truly an SBDC WIU Center award,” Ms. Friederichs said. “We could not do what we do without the support of Interim President Kristi Mindrup, Chris Merrett, Sandy Whittig, Erin Wherley and all of WIU sponsored projects.”

Under Ms. Friederichs’ leadership, the WIU SBDC has made significant strides in assisting local entrepreneurs and small business owners, enhancing economic development and providing resources across the region.

In congratulating Ms. Friederichs, WIU said the achievement reflects her commitment to our communities and the individuals she serves.
