The flooding Mississippi River in Davenport hits its crest midday Monday, May 1, and at least some of the road detours could be lifted in about a week, according to the City of Davenport.

National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Wilson said the river crested at Davenport at 21.4 feet. That’s a little lower than the 21.6 feet predicted for the Quad-Cities area. (The flood stage in Davenport is 15 feet. The record flood level in Davenport is 22.7 feet in 2019.)

“Our best estimate right now is that the river will continue falling back into its banks over the next two to three weeks. Roads will be reopened, and detours lifted in line with river fall. What that means right now, the existing detour is likely to remain in place for another week. We will keep everyone updated as we walk the flood response plan back,” according to information provided by the City of Davenport on Monday afternoon.

As of today (Tuesday, May 2) several downtown Davenport streets continue to be closed due to floodwaters. They include:

  • River Drive is closed at Highway 22/Rockingham Road through Bettendorf. Several side streets also are closed.
  • West Second Street is closed between Division and Myrtle streets.
  • Southbound Marquette Street is closed at Third Street.
  • South Concord is closed between River Drive and Utah.
