A new Five Below specialty discount store will open for business this week in Moline.
The store, located at 750 42nd Ave. Drive, will open its doors at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31. There will be a grand opening on Saturday, Nov. 1. The first 100 shoppers to visit the store on Saturday will receive a free $10 gift card.
The store’s regular hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays.
Five Below is one of four new retail stores taking shape in and near a former Hy-Vee grocery store, and close to the ultra-busy Seventh Street-John Deere Road intersection in Moline.
Those other three stores in the works or recently opened in the same complex are Burlington (formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory); Ulta Beauty, a beauty product supply store; and an Aldi grocery store. The stores are occupying the former grocery store space currently being renovated. The new Aldi store opened on Oct. 9 to huge crowds of customers.
“We’re excited to see continued reinvestment in the John Deere Road corridor,” Christopher Mathias, director of community and economic development for Moline, recently told the Quad Cities Regional Business Journal.
“When Hy-Vee closed this location years ago, our biggest goal was to get another grocery store in the area, so the fact that Aldi is expanding and opening a second store in our city really does meet a community need,” he added.
Moline Mayor Sangeetha Rayapati recently added: “We’re pleased to see the hard work of city staff to bring stores, especially stores people need and want, into this location. Any time we are able to transform empty buildings into economic development we’ve secured a win for our residents and our business community. We look forward to continuing this progress.”
In addition to the newest Quad Cities location, there are two Five Below stores in Davenport – at 4018 E. 53rd St. and 902 W. Kimberly Road – and a Silvis location at 2001 Fifth St. There also are Five Below stores in Sterling and Galesburg, Illinois.
Five Below is a chain of specialty discount stores. Founded in 2002, Five Below is based in Philadelphia. The company has more than 1,850 stores in 44 states. Most of its items in the stores are priced between $1 and $5, and some above $5 in categories such as crafts, home decor, technology and sports.
