Figge to offer free admission in July

With the official arrival of summer, the Figge Art Museum is turning up the temperature with an exciting offer: free admission to the Davenport museum for the month of July.

Museum leaders are encouraging visitors to beat the heat this summer by immersing themselves in a world of art and experiencing all that the Figge has to offer.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Cal and Jill Werner, of Bettendorf, all visitors will gain free access to the exhibitions on view including: The Life & Art of Charles M. Schulz; Ansel Adams, The Sierra Club, and the Making of a Landscape Icon; Edouard Duval-Carrié: Endless Flight; Beyond the Classroom; and Iowa Night Skies: Photographs by Johnny Brian as well as the Figge’s permanent collection galleries.

“We are grateful to Cal and Jill Werner for their generous gift of free admission to our community,”  Figge Executive Director & CEO Michelle Hargrave said in a news release. “Now more than ever, people are looking for connection, inspiration, and solace and the artwork on view offers all of those things and more to all who visit.

“Cal and Jill’s support removes the financial barrier and ensures that everyone can experience the  power of art,” Ms. Hargrave added.

This marks the third year the Werners have offered their support to provide the community with free admission.

In addition to the exhibitions, the museum will be offering Big Picture in the House, a one-hour session of learning, exploring and creating for all ages in the Figge’s Quad City Bank & Trust Grand Lobby. Sessions are taught by Figge Outreach educators and offered every Wednesday in July from 10- 11 a.m. and 2-3 p.m. Register at www.figgeartmuseum.org for the free sessions.

Visitors will be able to begin their visit with the new Museum Adventure exhibition in the Gildehaus Gallery on the first floor. The space is about encouraging guests to have active participation in their museum visit – to wonder, to look closely, play and choose your own museum adventure.

Free admission began Saturday, July 1, and runs through Monday, July 31. For a full list  of classes, programs and events, visit here
