The Figge Art Museum has a new partnership with the National Gallery of Art for its “Across the Nation” initiative that will bring historical masterworks to the Quad Cities.

The Figge, located in downtown Davenport, is now exhibiting 10 Northern European artworks from the National Gallery’s collection. The pieces date from 1537 to 1700. They include works by Lucas Cranach the Elder, Anthony van Dyck, Frans Hals, and Louis Vallée. The exhibition, “The Golden Age,” opened for view Saturday, June 28, and will continue through April 4, 2027.

The Figge’s own Northern European paintings will be paired with National Gallery works in four thematic sections. They are Portraiture, History, Still Life, and Genre Scenes.

Figge Executive Director and CEO Melissa Mohr said in a news release “It’s not every day that paintings by Van Dyck or Cranach make their way to our community, and for many here, this may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience them in person.”

Kaywin Feldman is director of the National Gallery of Art. She emphasized the initiative’s goal of broadening access to the national collection. “‘Across the Nation’ is the manifestation of the National Gallery’s vision as the Nation’s art museum,” Ms. Feldman said in the release.

The “Across the Nation” initiative is part of the National Gallery’s programming commemorating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. in 2026. It includes loans to 10 partner museums across the country. That aims to provide unprecedented access to national masterworks.
